Samples

  • It is highly recommended to order a sample. Simply change the size to 'sample' right above the 'Add to Cart' button. Order multiple samples of the same product if it is a product with high shade variation.
  • When measuring your project and ordering the product quantity make sure you order at least 10% extra for cuts, trimming, damaged pieces, and future repairs The installation is similar to the installation of wall tiles.

Slip resistance

A way to determine the Slip resistance of porcelain tile is the DIN (German Institute for Standardization) classification for tile slippage. One of the methods this system uses is the DIN 51130 set “ramp test”. In this set, various surfaces are rated in one of five groups according to their degree of slippage. To determine which of these groups a material should be classified in, operators apply it on a surface that is gradually sloped and then spray it with motor oil. A person wearing shoes walks up and down the slope until they start slipping. The value in degrees of the slope reached before they start slipping determines the classification of the material in class. Here are the ratings:

  • Rating R9 – Suitable for a less than 10° slope (minimal friction)
  • Rating R10 – Suitable for a 10° to 19° slope (normal friction)
  • Rating R11 – Suitable for a 19° to 27° slope (normal friction)
  • Rating R12 – Suitable for a 27° to 35° slope (high friction)
  • Rating R13 – Suitable for slopes more than 35° (very high friction)

Also, another DIN 51097 set classifies tiles from A to C for non-slip suitability. This test uses a soap solution instead of motor oil and participants are barefoot:

  • Rating A – Suitable for slopes 12° to 17°
  • Rating B – Suitable for slopes 18° to 23°
  • Rating C – Suitable for slopes >24°

Shade Variation

V1 - Uniform Appearance - Differences among pieces from the same production run are minimal

V2 - Slight Variation - Clearly distinguishable differences in texture and/or pattern within similar colors

V3 - Moderate Variation - While the colors present on a single piece of tile will be indicative of the colors to be expected on the other tiles, the amount of colors on each piece may vary significantly. For example 'that little bit of color' on one piece of tile may be the primary color on the next pieces.

V4 - Substantial Variation - Random color differences from tile to tile, so that one tile may have totally different colors from that of other tiles. Thus the final installation will be unique.

PEI Rating

PEI is a measurement of the “abrasion resistance” of a tile, meaning how much “rubbing” does it take to physically impact the look of the tile. The test is scored on a scale and each value represents a durability to withstand increasingly more demanding traffic.

PEI 1, Very Light Traffic - These tiles can be used on all indoor wall applications, and very light traffic residential bathroom floors. These tiles are not recommended for any area that will have any constant or heavy floor traffic. We do not recommend these to be used on floors at all.

PEI 2, Light Traffic - These tiles can be used on all indoor wall applications, interior countertops applications and light traffic residential bathroom floors. These tiles should not be used in areas such as kitchens, entry ways, stairs or areas with heavy traffic. We recommend these only to be used on floors were you would normally walk barefoot / without shoes.

PEI 3, Normal Traffic - Tiles suited for all residential and light commercial areas such as offices, reception areas, boutiques, interior walls, countertops and residential bathroom floors. Not recommended for commercial entryways.

PEI 4, Normal Commercial Traffic - Tiles suited for regular traffic. Recommended for medium commercial and light institutional use, such as restaurants, hotels, hospital lobbies and corridors.
